Advice reviewed 13 October 2026. Manufacturer claims are identified; this is not an independent riding test.
The Talaria Sting name covers several versions. Talaria UK currently quotes 55mph for the off-road Sting R TL4000 and 60mph for the Sting Pro TL5500. Those claims do not establish the permitted road configuration of an L1e motorcycle or the specification of an older Sting.
| Model | Claimed speed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sting R TL4000 | 55mph | Talaria UK Sting R |
| Sting Pro TL5500 | 60mph | Talaria UK Sting Pro |
Identify the version first
Ask for the model code, year and whether the motorcycle is the off-road or road-approved version. Names such as MX4 and MX5 are commonly used in listings, but paperwork and the actual specification should settle which bike you are comparing.
If buying an older original Sting, use its own manual and approval documents. Do not transfer the Sting Pro’s speed figure to every Talaria carrying a Sting badge.
What changes real-world performance?
Load, battery state, gradient, wind, tyres and surface affect what the motorcycle can achieve. Gearing or aftermarket electrical changes can also alter performance and create compatibility, warranty and insurance questions. A seller’s claimed modified speed is not a verified test result.
Consider acceleration control, braking, suspension and fit as well as maximum speed. A manageable motorcycle in the terrain you use is more useful than a headline number you rarely need.
Road use is a separate question
A road-approved L1e bike must remain in its approved configuration, and the rider must meet the relevant requirements. Do not treat an unrestricted off-road number as its legal road speed. See Talaria road-approval guidance before deciding whether a conversion or factory road model is appropriate.
Before purchase
- Check the exact model and year against the invoice and documents.
- Confirm standard or modified battery, controller and gearing.
- Assess rider fit and arrange a suitable place to ride.
- Read our Sting R guide for the battery and buying checks.
